Katula signs 5-year contract with Ravens

As an NFL long snapper, Matt Katula has always said, "if you know my name that's because I screwed up," but today there is another reason to know Matt Katula's name. Katula and the Baltimore Ravens reached a 5-year contract today that will keep Katula in a Raven's uniform through 2012 and makes him one of the highest paid long snappers in the league.

"Matt has earned every bit of this new contract, and I'm extremely happy for him and his family," says agent Scott Smith of X-A-M Sports & Entertainment. "I'm just happy the Ravens made a commitment to me because I want to be a Raven for a long time, " says Katula.

Matt Katula, an undrafted free agent in 2005 from the University of Wisconsin, made the team by beating out incumbent Joe Maese. He has been the Ravens' starting long snapper ever since and has led all NFL long snappers in special teams tackles over the last three seasons.
